Men's High Quality Leather Wallets in New York City

[ NEW YORK, NY - NYC - 6/8/2004 - www.Littleviews.com ]

Map of Fine Leather Accessory Shops in New York City

>>  It's easy finding nice women's handbags in New York City. Not only are there multiple accessory shops everywhere you look, handbags are also sold in boutiques, clothing shops, department stores, and hotel gift stores. Even street merchants sell purses. Frankly, the worse handbag for sale in the city is usually of decent quality simply because there is so much competition.

Men, however, have to hunt to find the same type of satisfying shopping experience that women take for granted. This experience includes exposure to fine merchandise, sensuous atmospheres, knowledgeable salespeople, and memorable events.

If you are a guy who really wants to have fun shopping for leather accessories (or a gal who knows how to treat her man), I suggest you tour the area shown on the map. Spend at least a half day traveling the suggested circuit. After you've seen everything, go back to your favorite stores and make your purchases. Equal in value to whatever you buy will be your terrific memories and plenty of advice for male friends who want to know how to shop in New York City.

Start your quest for thin leather wallets at Lederer, which, according to their literature, has been a vendor of the finest European handcrafted leather goods since 1898. Today, with outlets in New York, Paris and London, it specializes in Italian leather. The store itself is sensuous and the sales staff refined. They also carry a beautiful line of women's bags as well as luggage and funky Ducky umbrellas (which I regularly give as gifts). 457 MADISON AVENUE AT 51ST STREET (1)

Next, head up Madison Avenue to Davidoff of Geneva, a cigar shop. Don't smoke? No matter. You'll find this place very interesting, especially watching a master cigar maker cut leaf and assemble stogies. The shop smells great and has a number of luxurious items, including imported wallets. 535 MADISON AVENUE (2)

Continue on Madison Avenue to Hides in Shape. This large shop is filled with brightly colored leather goods for men and women, along with a high-spirited sales staff. Ask for "Joe." 558 MADISON AVENUE, BETWEEN 55TH AND 56TH STREETS (3)

At 57th and Madison, treat yourself to Mont Blanc, where you'll lose yourself in fine pen displays. They also have imported leather goods, including wallets and writing cases. 598 MADISON AVENUE (4)

From there, walk to 5th Avenue, then turn right on 5th to The Men's Store of Bergdorf Goodman. Although their leather accessory department is small, you must see their thin, American-made, alligator wallets and card holders designed exclusively for them. Done in unusual colors, as well as conservative shades, they all would turn several heads when pulled from a jacket pocket. 745 5TH AVENUE (5)

Return to 57th Street, walking east just past Madison Avenue, and stop at Ghurka, a leather accessory designer. This very refined, masculine store features fine leather products made in America, Spain, and Italy. Surrounding Ghurka are Couch and Prada stores, with high-quality male fashions available in many shops throughout this block. 41 East 57th Street (6)

Optional: Head to Park Avenue, but instead of hunting down another leather accessory shop, turn left (north) and explore Boutique Bernardaud, which is 1.5 blocks from the corner of 57th. A large, flag-ship store, it features its own French porcelain and porcelain jewelry. The merchandise is so upscale and outstanding that it compliments a quest for high-quality, leather goods. 499 PARK AVENUE (7)

Back on the leather trail, head south on Park. On the east side of Park, at about 56th Street, visit T.Anthony, Ltd.. This is a large leather goods store that features men's accessories from Italy in ostrich, lizard, alligator, and calf, as well as luggage, brief cases, and women's purses. 445 PARK AVENUE (8)

Rest and Eat: And last, decide where to make your final purchases by first having lunch at Fauchon Paris, which features its own French chocolates, fruit-based candies, and gourmet coffee shop. It is conveniently located across the street from T.Anthony. 442 PARK AVENUE AT 56TH STREET (9)

Enjoy!
