Best Airfares To and From New York City
>> When booking a plane ticket within the USA to or from New York, check travel agency sites and airline sites before making your purchase. They offer the same routes, but pricing and mileage bonuses can differ greatly.
Super discount sites, such as www.Hotwire.com, www.Cheaptickets.com and www.Hotwire.com, do not always give you the lowest rates for standard flights and have limited offerings.
www.Orbitz.com, founded as a joint venture by major airlines, usually provides the same prices quoted on airline sites, but not always. Full service companies, such as www.Travelocity.com and www.Expedia.com, have the connections you want, plus special deals, although not always the lowest prices.
No matter what online travel agency you choose, once you identify the flight you want, double check it against an airline site. That extra effort might end up saving you $100 or more.
Airline Sites
Airline prices often meet or beat online travel agency prices, with some offering bonus frequent flier miles, too!
To check who has the best offer, start by selecting your favorite online travel agency. When you identify the flight you want, open a new browser session without closing the old one. In Internet Explorer, click File, New and Window.
In the resulting new window, go to your second favorite online travel site and find the same flight. Now open a third new window, but this time go to the related airline site and find the same flight. At this point, you have three prices to compare. Select the best one and make your reservation.
Use the following list of major airline sites to help you out:
 www.AA.com
 www.Continental.com
 www.MidwestExpress.com
 www.Delta.com
 www.NWA.com
 www.Southwest.com
 www.United.com
 www.USAir.com
