River cruising in the United States is an experience that cannot be matched by any other mode of travel! Highlights include:
- Gazing at winding waterways. River and coastal travel features surprises around every bend . . . and there are many bends!
- Seeing cities and towns like our ancestors did. Remember, when the US was founded, river travel was the "speedy roadway of commerce." This resulted in many of our nation's most important towns being built along river and coastal banks.
- Hearing, smelling, and feeling nature. Much of our US coastline follows forested land. By boat, you experience nature unfolding at a perfect, relaxed pace.
- Meeting new friends. River cruises take place on small ships that entertain no more than 100 guests and provide an atmosphere of a close-knit community. Among your fellow travelers are local experts who'll tell you about the areas you visit, entertainers, and the vessel's staff, who provide everyone with a great experience.
- Eating fresh, beautifully prepared meals. Good company and good food are to be expected!
- Balancing cruising and shore time. River cruises balance your sea and land time on a daily basis. If you want to stay onboard 24/7, you can do so. If, however, you want to explore new areas, whether on a guided tour or on your own, you can do so daily. Do you love to draw? Take pictures? Meditate? Write blogs or diary's? Shore visits are sure to inspire you.
For a glimpse into what it is like to spend time along the mighty Hudson River, read Littleviews' article Visit the Hudson River Valley.
By November 15, I'll post more information about river and coastal tours conducted by the American Cruise Lines (one of their vessels is pictured above) and other US river tour options.
